Cortez Williams Lecture Series - Spring 2019

Coming Spring 2019, the annual Cortez Williams Lecture Series brings four seasoned speakers in issues of black culture and Africana Studies to UNM. Beginning with a keynote speech for the Black History Month Kickoff Brunch event, the lecture series will discuss topics that address the dynamics, study and contemporary issues of African American culture and identity.

Speakers:

  • Dr Iva Carruthers, General Secretary of the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Conference, and Keynote Speaker of Black History Month Kickoff Brunch event.
  • Dr Kyle Mays, Professor of African American Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles,
  • Dr Gregorio Gonzales, A 2018-2019 University of California President's Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Santa Barbara
  • Dr Stephanie EvansProfessor and Chair, Department of African American Studies, Africana Women's Studies, and History at Clark Atlanta University
