Major & Minor Requirements
- 1st Major: 30 Hours, equivalent to 10 courses required.
- 2nd Major: 24 Hours, equivalent to 8 courses required.
- Minor: 15 Hours, equivalent to 5 courses required.

Course(s) Emphasis:
- Emphasis on the historical agency of African Americans and other peoples of
African descent. - Focus on the centrality of race, racism, and racial formation across the Black
Diaspora. - Specific emphasis on the Southwest United States.
- Mission to provide students of all races, ethnicities, and backgrounds with a
comprehensive understanding of global linkages between peoples of Africa and
African-descended people in the Southwest, contiguous United States, and
throughout the Black diaspora.
Substitution Policy:
- Any substitutions for courses must be approved by the Africana Studies
department.
