Dr. Mays, from the UNM Africana Studies Department, is an award-winning lecturer who holds a PhD in American Studies, focusing on the areas of Black Atlantic Culture, 20th Century African American Culture and Politics, Visual Culture and Gender Studies. She has a M.A. in Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies from the University of New Mexico and a B.A. in Communications from George Mason University. Mays teaches courses on Race, Class, and Feminism, and Film and Literature Studies at the University of New Mexico.
