The University of New Mexico is pleased to announce the finalists for the Director of Africana Studies position.
Dr. Robert F. Jefferson, Associate Professor of History, University of Alabama–Birmingham will interview on Monday, Nov. 25, 2013.
His lecture, “Site Recovery: The Life Story of Vasco Hale and Its Meaning for Africana Studies and U.S. Civil Rights Movement History"will be held from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. in the History Commons, First Floor, Mesa Vista Hall.
There will be a Community Forum/Reception from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Location: UNM SUB-Student Union Ballroom A (SUB)
Dr. John A. Arthur, Professor of Sociology and Anthropology, University of Minnesota-Duluth will interview on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013.
His lecture, “Proximate Determinants of Voluntary Repatriation of African Immigrants (Preliminary Evidence from Panels 3, 4, and 5)” will be held from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. in the Sociology Commons, Room 1061 Social Sciences Building (Sociology Department).

Dr. Merle L. Bowen, Associate Professor of Political Science, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will interview on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013.
Her lecture, “Diaspora of the Soil: the Black Struggle for Land and Liberty in Brazil," will be held from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. in 2069 Social Sciences Building (Political Science Department).

Dr. Cynthia A. Young, Associate Professor of English, African and African Diaspora Studies, Boston College will interview on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013.
Her lecture, “Black Ops: Black Masculinity and the War on Terror" will be held from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. in the History Commons, First Floor, Mesa Vista Hall.
