Coming Spring 2019, the annual Cortez Williams Lecture Series brings four seasoned speakers in issues of black culture and Africana Studies to UNM. Beginning with a keynote speech for the Black History Month Kickoff Brunch event, the lecture series will discuss topics that address the dynamics, study and contemporary issues of African American culture and identity.

- Dr Iva Carruthers, General Secretary of the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Conference, and Keynote Speaker of Black History Month Kickoff Brunch event.
- Dr Kyle Mays, Professor of African American Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles,
- Dr Gregorio Gonzales, A 2018-2019 University of California President's Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Santa Barbara
- Dr Stephanie Evans, Professor and Chair, Department of African American Studies, Africana Women's Studies, and History at Clark Atlanta University
