Research Agenda

The CMRH 2008-2009 research agenda is to unearth, organize, centralize and make public the history of African Americans in New Mexico and the Southwest United States. The CMRH research focus includes, but is not limited to:

  • The History of the UNM Africana Studies Program
  • The Dr. Cortez Williams Collection of Blacks in the West and Blacks in Latin America
  • The Dr. Gerald Davis Collection on Estevanico, The first person of African descent to arrive in New Mexico in 1539
